The kingdom of joy: Athletic Genuine wins its third consecutive Fair Play title and celebrates the triumph in style
Athletic Club Fundazioa, our Genuine team, went into the final phase of the competition in Tarragona just two points ahead of the second placed team in the Fair Play table. After playing their three matches against SD Eibar Fundazioa, SD Huesca and UD Las Palmas, our Genuine Lions and Lionesses finally lifted the long-awaited title – a third in a row. The unprecented championship victory comes down in large part to the sportmanship and values our team showed in their football. The team, well supported by the coaching staff and the Athletic fans who travelled to Tarragona, celebrated the victory in style. As always, joy and a good atmosphere reign wherever Athletic Genuine go, but when they also win a trophy such as the Fair Play trophy, then it is a proper party.
The weekend was full of reunions, hugs, smiles and, in short, emotions. Since leaving Lezama for Tarragona last Friday, Athletic Genuine have had a great time sharing the experience with players from the other 41 clubs that participated in this spectacular final phase. The competition is divided into two groups: ‘Teamwork’ and ‘Fair Play’. Athletic Club finished in 17th place in the sporting table (Teamworkd Group), but led the tournament that matters most: Fair Play.
The party will continue at Lezama on Tuesday, when the players who travelled to Tarragona will meet up with their teammates for the weekly training session.
