Andoni Goikoetxea (1956), defensive stronghold of the last team that won the League and Cup in the 80’s and a living red-and-white legend, will act as representative and ambassador of the Athletic Club Foundation from this new season onwards.
Alonsotegi’s legendary centre-back, who played 369 matches with Athletic (44 goals) over 13 seasons, won the League titles of the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons, the Cup of the same year that meant the double, plus the corresponding to the Supercup of the 1984-85 campaign. A curriculum that, added to his emblematic class and claw, make him a mythical lion of our centennial history.
Likewise, Goikoetxea will be the person in charge of coordinating with the Athletic Club’s Association of Former Players so that the enormous symbolic value represented by the former players remains alive in the collective memory and the presence of ex lions in the social and cultural acts and activities promoted by the Foundation will be greater every time.
