EMMAUS, the Foundation’s new social project

The Athletic Club Foundation collaborates with the Emmaus Social Foundation Group centres in the towns of Gamiz and Derio by means of two training sessions per week

The Athletic Club Foundation has integrated the EMMAUS project into the social work that it is carrying out during the 2021/22 season. Specifically, this new project is the result of collaboration with one of the best-known third sector social organisations in the Basque Country, the Emmaus Social Foundation Group, which is part of the Emmaüs International movement. Coaches from the Foundation visit the towns of Gamiz and Derio every week to hold two sessions to help people in vulnerable situations in the process of social inclusion.

To be more precise, Emmaus has a residential centre in Gamiz and a day centre in Derio where it runs a comprehensive programme to support people in a situation of severe social exclusion. The multi-sport training sessions run by the Foundation’s coaches are part of the various transformational initiatives promoted by Emmaus. These inclusive activities at the Derio day centre also feature a radio programme that empowers Emmaus users by giving them a voice of their own. Andoni Goikoetxea, the Foundation’s ambassador, will take part in one of the podcasts on the Emmaus radio station in the near future.
