End of season for social projects

The training sessions that the Foundation organizes weekly for different groups at risk of social exclusion will resume after summer

The Foundation has put an end, one more season, to the weekly training sessions of 16 of its social projects that it carries out in collaboration with various entities and associations. These are the Bizkaia Mental Health Network (RSMB), Genuine, Utopía, Ahalegina, Bakuva, Bizitegi, ADSIS, Zabaloetxe, Walking Football, Goiztiri, Bizgarri, IMQ AMSA, Sortarazi, Gizakia, Berriztu and Fidias projects. Among the groups at risk of social exclusion to which these projects are directed are people with mental illnesses, with intellectual disabilities, women in vulnerable situations, minors in vulnerable situations, homeless people, unaccompanied foreign minors and people deprived of their liberty.

The weekly trainings led by the Foundation’s technicians promote sports activity in a climate of mutual help, an experience that incorporates habits and values that help in the different processes of social inclusion of the indicated groups. It is not only about the general benefits attributed to sport (combating metabolic syndrome, acquiring healthy habits and improving physical fitness), but group sport helps to combat loneliness, strengthen self-esteem and establish affective relationships and moments of very positive companionship.

The satisfaction surveys that the Foundation carries out among the different users of these projects reflect this. Specifically, the average score obtained was 4.7 out of 5, and 12 different aspects related to each activity have been assessed. Among them, the degree of satisfaction with the Foundation’s professionals and the treatment received by the technicians stands out, both cases being 5 out of 5.

This 2020/21 season that is coming to an end has been marked by the pandemic and the consequent lockdowns. Due to restrictions, much of the training had to take place virtually. For next year, the Foundation trusts that all social projects will return to normal and that Athletic Club Fundazioa will celebrate the final phase of LaLiga Genuine pending dispute in Lezama, as scheduled before COVID-19.
