UTOPIA, the importance of continuing to dream

The women of the UTOPIA project begin their sixth season with the aim that the weekly sessions strengthen their space of sisterhood

UTOPIA‘s face-to-face trainings, a project aimed at vulnerable adult women, were launched this Tuesday at the La Casilla sports center, thanks to the collaboration that the Athletic Club Foundation maintains with @bilbaokirolak. For the sixth season of this project, in addition to the collaboration of the Clara Campoamor Association, the Foundation has the participation of the international association MPDL (Movement for Peace, Disarmament and Freedom). MPDL is an independent, secular and progressive NGO that since 1983 works for the full fulfillment of Human Rights, democratic governance, equality and solidarity between people and peoples. Its headquarters in the Basque Country is in Portugalete and, for the first time, some of the women of this association will take part in the sessions of the Athletic Club Foundation.

The users of this project make up a heterogeneous group of women who find in UTOPIA a place to play sports and feel united and accompanied. In times of pandemic and crisis, it is essential that sisterhood, the relationship of solidarity between women, be strengthened and serve as support in situations of vulnerability. The objective of the Foundation is that the weekly training sessions, in addition to promoting physical improvement, help to make a group and serve as a stimulus to face adversity with optimism.

For another season, former player Eli Ibarra and María José Boraita will be in charge of directing and supervising sports training and complementary activities and training courses that help this group in their empowerment process.
